Mazes and Monsters
Mazes and Monsters, also known as Rona Jaffe's Mazes and Monsters, is a 1982 American made-for-television film directed by Steven Hilliard Stern about a group of college students and their interest in a fictitious role-playing game (RPG) of the same name. The film stars Tom Hanks in his first lead acting role. Oscar-winner Tom Hanks portrays one of four college students who become so deeply involved in a Mazes & Monsters session that the results may turn fatal at any moment. Despite its potential for silly sensationalism, the film is based on a believable premise, and arrives at a logical conclusion. One of Tom Hanks, first movie roles, and included performances by Chris Makepeace, Wendy Crewson, Clark Johnson, and Kevin Peter Hall. Who would later go on to star in the films, Predator, Predator 2, and Harry and the Hendersons. It was also ground zero, for the Satanic Panic during the 80’s. It aired on December 28, 1982, on CBS. It also featured the song, “Friends in the World”, performed by Judy Lander (as Judith Lander) and Cal Dodd. Filmed partially in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Emma
Emma is a 1996 period comedy film based on the 1815 novel of the same name by Jane Austen. Written and directed by Douglas McGrath, the film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Alan Cumming, Toni Collette, Ewan McGregor, and Jeremy Northam. Emma Woodhouse is a congenial young lady who delights in meddling in other people's affairs. She is perpetually trying to unite men and women who are utterly wrong for each other. Despite her interest in romance, Emma is clueless about her own feelings, and her relationship with gentle Mr. Knightly. The film, featured earlier performances by Alan Cumming, James Cosmo, Sophie Thompson, Jeremy Northam, Toni Collette, Polly Walker, and Juliet Stevenson, Released, relatively at the same time, Clueless pretty much had the same plot. More or less. Truly, the mid 90’s, was the age of Jane Austen film adaptations. The film grossed $22.2 million in the United States and Canada and $37.3 million worldwide. Ken Eisner, writing for Variety, proclaimed "Gwyneth Paltrow shines brightly as Jane Austen's most endearing character, the disastrously self-assured matchmaker Emma Woodhouse. A fine cast, speedy pacing and playful direction make this a solid contender for the Austen sweepstakes.
